New Formalized Academic Standard
|
|
|
At Northwest we are always trying to make our programs better. One way that we do this is by making sure that our students have similar experiences across the board, regardless of the partner network with whom they are completing their degree.
|
For this reason, we are implementing a new standard that, in all reality, is simply formalizing what is already happening across the majority of CBTE programs.
|
|
|
|
- NEW STANDARD -
|
The new standard, required for graduation, is the following:
|
|
· Students in graduate CBTE programs are required to complete a minimum of 1 formal academic assignment (i.e., Research or Critical Reading) per outcome.
|
|
· Students should complete a minimum of half of these assignments as Critical Readings and half as Research assignments.
|
· Any new outcomes begun after September 1st fall under the new requirements. Previously begun outcomes are grandfathered in. Beginning a new outcome means that a student has submitted at least one assignment.
|
|
|
|
|
Developing Faithful & Skilled Readers of the Bible
|
|
If the Bible is critical for Christian life and ministry, then faithfully and skillfully interpreting and applying the Bible is crucial for ministry leaders and the people they are entrusted to lead and serve. As you may know, this faithfulness and skill does not ‘just happen.’ It requires personal effort and guidance from experienced and knowledgeable mentors such as yourself. So, we are taking steps to ensure every student in our CBTE programs gets the time, space, and mentorship they need to be faithful and skillful readers and appliers of the Bible. Our academically-focused assignments are designed with this end in mind.

Research & Critical Reading Assignments Ratios
|
We expect mentors to be aware of how many Research and Critical Reading assignments students have completed. Please note that this standard is the bare minimum, and students are encouraged to go beyond the quantity specified.
|
Mentors should check-in on students at the following three timeframes in their degree:
|

Master of Arts in Biblical Leadership
|
|
· By 33% (4 Outcomes): At minimum 4 academic assignments complete (2 Research and 2 Critical Reading)
|
|
· By 66% (8 Outcomes): At minimum 8 academic assignments complete (4 Research and 4 Critical Reading)
|
· By 99% (12 Outcomes): At minimum 12 academic assignments complete (6 Research and 6 Critical Reading)
|
|
· By 33% (9 Outcomes): At minimum 9 academic assignments complete (4–5 Research and 4–5 Critical Reading)
|
|
· By 66% (18–19 Outcomes): At minimum 18 academic assignments complete (9 Research and 9 Critical Reading)
|
|
· By 99% (28 Outcomes): At minimum 28 academic assignments complete (14 Research and 14 Critical Reading)
|

In Conclusion
|
As we said, this new standard is really just a way of formalizing what is already happening in our CBTE programs. But it is always helpful to make sure all students receive similar care and experiences. This is another way to help them with that!

Please note that Northwest will ask if these standards have been met, and ask for supporting documentation, before a student is allowed to graduate.
