EBSCOhost
Northwest students have access to two EBSCO databases - a database of monographs and academic papers and an e-book library. Both databases can be accessed here.

JSTOR

JSTOR is a digital library for the intellectually curious including resources in a variety of disciplines. As a Northwest student, you have access to JSTOR here.

A large database of open access theological and religious studies resources.

AAR Recommended Reading Lists
Browse biblical, theological, and religious studies readings lists by subject. Each list recommends two to five books considered influential, pivotal, seminal, or otherwise important publications in their field.

An annotated collection of web resources for the study of religion.

 

Best Bible Commentaries
Best Bible Commentaries collects reviews from professors, scholars, journals and other reviewers and ranks Bible commentaries based on these reviews. Best Bible Commentaries allows the user to view other user reviews on each of the commentaries ranked on the site as well as basic publication, description and access information.

This resource for academic writers provides examples of some of the phraseological ‘nuts and bolts’ of academic writing. The Academic Writing Phrasebank gives advice on how to refer to sources in an academic paper, how to write introductions and conclusions, and more!

 

Advice to Writers
As a digital repository of writing resources, Advice to Writers contains short articles on writing and links to other writing support resources including books, articles, and useful websites.

 

Common Errors in English Usage
Authored by Professor Paul Brians of Washington State University, Common Errors in English Usage provides a list of commonly misspelled English words and short phrases.

 

Dictionary.com
Launched in 1995, this online dictionary makes sure you are using the right word in the right place. Thesaurus.com is also easily accessible from Dictionary.com.

 

Internet Public Library
Browse resources by subject and search for online and offline versions books.

 

Merriam-Webster Dictionary
In addition to functioning as an English dictionary and thesaurus, the Merriam-Webster dictionary also provides links to other resources including English to Spanish translation services.

 

Online Etymology Dictionary
This online, free dictionary provides histories of the meaning and definitions of English Words.

 

Purdue Owl Online Writing Lab

The Purdue Owl Writing Lab includes tips on how to use citation generators responsibly, and more. Purdue also has easy to use citation guides for the Chicago, APA, AMA, ASA, IEEE, and MLA style systems.

 

WordReference.com

Accessible through a browser or the WordReference app, WordReference.com is a language dictionary, verb conjugation and translation service for more than 15 different languages including Spanish, English, French, Italian and Korean.

 

Writing Guides
This online guide produced by the University of Michigan gives helpful tips on how to write and proofread an academic paper.
