Our Mission

Joyful Service & Skilled Leadership

Our mission

Northwest Seminary and College exists to prepare effective pastoral and lay ministry leaders in context for services to churches and agencies in the Fellowship and beyond. We equip and empower followers of Jesus Christ for joyful service and skilled ministry leadership, and are passionate about raising up competent pastors, missionaries, chaplains, and lay leaders who love God and know the pulse of the people and cultures they serve. We believe that, just like Jesus trained the disciples on the ground, we too must be ‘on the ground’ with our students and the ministries we collectively serve.

Northwest was born in 1934 from the denomination that would become Fellowship Pacific and Fellowship Prairies. This is important because it shows our denomination’s steadfast commitment to theological education over the decades. It shows our heart for the gospel of Christ, with all its implications for ministry and outreach, has never faltered.

ACTS building

Our home denomination now represents approximately 120 English, Filipino, Spanish, Korean, and multicultural congregations. We serve our broader denomination of over 500 churches across Canada (The Fellowship), and support Fellowship International, our denomination’s global missions agency. For over 80 years we have worked with our denomination to foster the health and growth of churches through the cultivation of pastoral and lay leaders who have the knowledge, skills, and character to lead in their contexts.

We also have a past, present, and future of serving alongside other denominations. As a founding member of Trinity Western University’s Graduate School of Theology, known as ACTS Seminaries (the Associated Canadian Theological Schools)—we work in partnership with three Canadian seminaries to form and equip men and women to serve God in the church and the world.

Altogether, Northwest offers a diverse and far-reaching range of undergraduate and graduate-level ministry education programs through course-based and competency-based theological education (CBTE). We offer these programs in four different languages—English, French, Spanish, and Korean—to reach and equip ministry leaders in Canada, the US, Central and South America, and Korea.

Whatever we do in and beyond our denomination, we are driven by a passion for creative collaboration that equips and empowers followers of Jesus Christ for joyful service and skilled ministry leadership.

Our beliefs

Everything we do grows out of our belief in a Triune God who is revealed to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As a member of the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptists, our statement of faith can be found here.
