Group 5

Join us for the January In the Book seminar.

These events combine learning about the Bible with work in the Bible so you can learn, in a hands-on way, how to read, interpret, apply, and communicate scripture in the unique contexts that God has placed you.

On January 27 and 28, 2023 Northwest Faculty (Drs. Howard Andersen; Archie Spencer; Brian Rapske; Dongshin Chang, and Mark Naylor) will lead an In the Book workshop on the the theme of sojourners in the Bible—how the God revealed in scripture shows us who sojourners are, and what this means for who we are as God's people. Topics include:

  • Why you think the way you do, and how we got to post-modernism.
  • The hermeneutics of doctrine: the place of theology in preaching and in light of exegetical practice.
  • Conceptualization of the Hebrew gÄ“r (sojourner) in the Old Testament as a missional identity.
  • How the Book of Hebrews exhorts Christian readers to be faithful sojourners in the world.
  • The cultural dynamics of theologizing and communication within the context of the sojourner theme in scripture.

See the full schedule below. Bring your Bible and your computer and/or a notebook for the interactive components. Expect a mixture of presentations, conversations, and individual and group work. We'll be looking at specific sections of scripture, with a view to forming theological interpretations and application. The goal is to take you through the process of scripture interpretation, from start to finish.

These workshops are designed for Immerse Master of Arts and Master of Divinity students, but they are open to anyone who wants to grow in their ability to interpret, communicate, and be formed by the Word of God.

Cost for non-Immerse students is $160 (including tax) for a day-and-half of interactive learning. Coffee, tea, and light snacks will be provided. Attendees can either bring their own lunches or purchase food at the Trinity Western University cafeteria. Register (and pay if needed) using the following form.
