Scholarship MOU Signing Event
On February 24, Northwest celebrated the signing of eight scholarship agreements. Seven churches and one family demonstrated their trust in Northwest’s ability to train pastors by providing $82,000 in scholarships funds over the next five years.

It seems like an obvious thing to say, but Northwest exists because of students. Our students are passionate about the gospel and building the Kingdom of God. They are people who live life on mission. For many, living life on mission comes at a high financial cost. Regardless of one’s life situation, adding tuition to the list of expenses requires great sacrifice and great faith.
At Northwest, we are constantly aware of financial restraints on students and the need to mitigate these challenges. This past fall Dr. Don Chang felt a burden to raise scholarship funds for students in our Korean-language programs.
Don approached churches in Canada and Korea, presenting them with the financial reality of our Korean students. He challenged them to provide enough scholarship funds to cover the costs associated with taking a three-credit course. In response, seven churches answered Don’s challenge each providing $2,000 – $2,400 in new scholarships awards.
Let us introduce you to some of these churches and the awards they will be providing.

Samuel Dongsan Weekend Retreat Church
Scholarship: Samuel Community Scholarship 1, $2,000
Scholarship: Samuel Community Scholarship 2, $2,000
"Samuel Dongsan Weekend Retreat Church was founded with the vision of becoming a faith community like the early church described in the Book of Acts. Over a hundred years ago, many missionaries from North America came to Korea—then a spiritual wilderness—to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Korean church today exists because of the seeds they planted in faith and sacrifice. As recipients of that gospel legacy, we now feel called to carry forward their missionary spirit by supporting those who are preparing to proclaim the gospel today. Our scholarship donation to Northwest is a small but meaningful way to honor that legacy and participate in God’s ongoing mission."
Rev. Seil Kim

Vancouver Hallelujah Church
Scholarship: Hallelujah Church Scholarship, $2,000
"Our church decided to participate in this scholarship because we believe that raising well-equipped pastors is essential for faithfully proclaiming the gospel of God’s Kingdom. Based on my own experience studying at Northwest, I recognized the importance of nurturing pastors who are thoroughly prepared to share the gospel. Moreover, we firmly believe that investing in pastoral education ultimately strengthens the church and contributes to the expansion of God’s Kingdom.
The reason our church decided to contribute to this scholarship was, first and foremost, our belief that nurturing well-equipped pastors is essential for faithfully proclaiming the gospel of God’s Kingdom. Drawing from my own experience studying at Northwest, I am convinced that preparing pastors to effectively share the gospel is paramount. Secondly, we believe this ultimately strengthens the church and contributes to the expansion of God’s Kingdom."
Rev. Soo Young Lee
