Master of Arts in Linguistics and Translation
Overview
The Master of Arts in Linguistics and Translation trains you in the techniques of applied linguistics and interpretation of biblical texts for effective cross-cultural communication and ministry. Northwest, as a member of ACTS Seminaries, offers this unique degree through a partnership between ACTS Seminaries and the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL), located right next-door on campus. ACTS provides the exegetical training in biblical interpretation and theology, and CanIL offers the linguistics courses.
Be prepared to produce scientific descriptions of languages and cultures, literature and materials for literacy instruction, and translations of the Bible in the more than 1500 languages that still do not have access to Scripture. Learn from faculty who have extensive field experience in applied linguistics, computer applications, literacy, community development and Bible translation in languages around the world.
Financial aid is available through both Northwest, ACTS, and CanIL. There are many mentoring opportunities available for students to train in a variety of linguistic and cultural contexts through teaching assistant positions and research opportunities.
